Mikkael Special School
School Profile
Mikkael Special School aims to deliver a sense of community wellness. In order to produce this outcome, the students are preferentially from a low economic background whose parents might be farmers or daily wagers, who otherwise might not be able to afford the services that would ensure the child’s welfare and good health.
With an initial start-up of 5 children with disorders such as Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Down ’s syndrome, Severe Learning Disability, Motor Co-ordination Disorder, the current strength of students has risen to more than 30.
These students have been given an opportunity to learn in a school environment by prioritizing the additional needs their health demands. They are also arranged with periodical health check-ups from which students and their parents receive timely updated information about their health.
The location of the centre allows for students to enrol from even remote areas within a radius of 20 kms from the epicentre of the centre namely Sattankulam (Tuticorin district).

Mikkael Special School contains a team of 8 primary staff who are immensely involved with the students, of which include teaching staff, non-teaching staff and admin staff. The team members are highly qualified health professionals as well.

Individualised Educational Planning
Individuals with special needs require individual attention to implement specific methods of teaching to exhibit their full capabilities. The intervention plan is then monitored, re-evaluated and implemented depending on the individual child’s performances.
